SACRED ETIQUETTE
"Walk gently, for you are treading on holy ground."

The Golden Rule: Clockwise (Kora)

In Tibetan Buddhism, we always circumambulate sacred objects (Stupas, Mani walls, and the Holy Mountain itself) in a CLOCKWISE direction. This aligns your energy with the universe.

*Note: Followers of the Bon religion walk counter-clockwise. You may see them, but please follow the Buddhist flow.

Monastery Mindfulness

Temples are the residence of the divine. Before entering, please remove your hat and sunglasses to show respect.

Do not point with a single finger at statues; instead, gesture with an open palm facing upward.

Keep silence and avoid stepping on the threshold of the door.

Photography & Respect

Always ask for permission before taking photos of local pilgrims or monks. A smile and a nod go a long way.

Strictly Prohibited: Taking photos inside the main chapels of monasteries. This is a sacred rule.

Do not step over religious instruments, books, or people sitting on the ground.

The Khata Offering

The white scarf (Khata) represents purity and good will. When offering a Khata to a statue or a lama, bend slightly forward and hold it with both hands.

Receiving a Khata is a blessing—wear it around your neck during your journey.
